BoatTest.com has done a really thorough review of the new Key Largo 3000. This is one of our longer blog posts, but if you are thinking about buying the Key Largo 3000, this is a MUST READ!
They give a brief overview of the boat as a whole:
The Key Largo 3000 CC powered with twin Evinrude E-TEC G2 250 outboards not only proved herself fast — with a 4.4 second hole-shot and a top speed of 56.3 mph — but also economical for the genre, maxing out at 3000 rpms and 25.9 mph. Her 195-gallon (738 L) fuel tank gives a range of 352 miles at this speed, allowing for a 10% reserve. Features the angler will like include a small chum sink and washdown hose alongside the larger baitwell at the transom, toe rails and gunwale bolsters.
As well as cover many key features that you will want to read about:
The Cockpit. Because the 3000 CC is a fishing boat, we’ll start in the cockpit. The easiest way to board is to first step on the swim platform/motor bracket and pass through the port door in the stern. The stern platform is notable because it is so large. Not only does it make engine access easy, but it can also be used as a casting platform when on flat water inshore. Placing the twin Evinrude outboards so far aft also improves performance. Note that because the Evinrude E-TEC G2 steering gear is all internal, there is no clutter facilitating passage from port to starboard.
Adjacent to the door is a sink beneath an acrylic hatch and next to that is the 25-gallon (95 L) livewell. There are two rod holders in the cap rails on each side and a bench seat folds out from the stern. Behind it there are two hatches that provide access to the sink plumbing, livewell pump and other equipment. The self-bailing cockpit has drains in the aft corners.
Cockpit Storage. Outboard on each side, the cockpit has gunwale racks for rods or landing gear. There’s a small lockable compartment in the base of the passageway to the swim platform that is designed to hold Plano 3600 Series tackle drawers.
And finally, they review the twin Evinrude Engines that were included with the boat:
Evinrude E-TEC G2 250 Engine
The Evinrude E-TEC G2 300 is probably the most technically advanced outboard engine on the market in class. In a nutshell, this 3.4 L engine provides 4-stroke fuel economy at cruising speeds with 2-stroke torque at the low and mid RPM ranges. Its strongest suit, however, is its low-maintenance design which integrates this steering and gear shifting into the body of the engine with no external rods or cylinders. Scheduled maintenance isn’t required for 5 years or 500 hours. The E-TEC G2 has an internal oil reservoir, an 81-degree tilt range, and has auto-winterization. Its beltless magneto system is more reliable than the automobile-type alternators used on most other outboards. The engine was designed from the beginning to be saltwater-ready and carries a 5-year factory backed warranty which includes corrosion.
Performance
The Numbers. Our Key Largo 3000 CC was powered by twin Evinrude E-TEC G2 250-hp outboards turning 14 ½” x 22” (36.8 cm x 55.9 cm) Rebel three-bladed stainless steel propellers through 1.85:1 reductions. With two people on board and three-quarters of a tank of fuel, the boat weighed 6,520 lbs. (6,520 kg). Top speed was 56.3 mph (49 knots) at 5600 rpm.
Best cruise came at 3000 rpm. The boat ran 25.9 mph (22.5 knots) and burned 12.9 gph (48.8 lph), giving the 3000 CC a range of 352 statute miles (365 nm) with 10% fuel in reserve.
In acceleration tests, the 250-hp mills had plenty of oomph, popping the boat on plane in 4.4 seconds and pushing her to 30 mph (26.1 knots) in 6.4 seconds.
